In the 17th and 18th centuries we were a very heavily influenced Judeo-Christian nation. In this room, we could likely come to a strong concensus on what we think this country is and should be. We are about to elect a President who won’t even wear an American flag on his lapel. As a culture, we need to market the inspirational value system.
MARKETABILTIY: You want to talk about HOPE, then how do you market it to the youth of America?
Democrats are great at pushing democracy. They are great at selling liberation.
What REAL liberation is:
As a Republican, we have to reject the idea of democracy and that goes against everything we are. Our founding fathers hated democracy, but by really focusing on Individual liberty, we would be doing ourselves a disservice to say that we are not individual libertarians.
I would hate to see a bunch of immigrants come into our nation and change our celebratory and patriotic principles, while I realize that it is okay to love America and prosperity. Change needs to be avoided and the challenge is to explain the importance of
The core of everything we have is Freedom and all we preserve and dwell in is FREEDOM. We celebrate holidays based on people who died defending our Freedom.

It is like a marathon: You all start out a the same point on the starting line. One by one, you strive and gain and persevere, until you reach the finish line. You endure the whole of the 26.2 miles, but you grow through the process. Some people fail, but very few because the finish is something that they planned on, trained for, prepared for. When Heartbreak Hill is in their way, some struggle, and some fly the course. Some elbow their way and some lend a helping hand or a kind word. But through it all, there is a human battle against self, against nature and against the odds.

We started this off as marketing Conservatism. Liberals are better at that since we love choice and they tout that heavily. The choice of school, jobs, living conditions are how Liberals appeal, but at the same time,

When the first settlers came to America and decided to move west, they decided to go by themselves, and many died but those who succeeded..it has been suppressed by the lack of rugged individual spirit.
Now, the obamanation of HOPE is almost the pit of hell, as he shows you Turkish delight and wisks it away. America entitles you to your freedom, and FREEDOM is a powerful word. The word empowerment has energy and gusto and the ability to win over the imagination and adoration of all American people.
We have slogans that have worked like “cut and run” and “amnesty”…”life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is the ultimate soundbyte.
America does not guarantee you happiness, but the ability to fight for it. To pursue it. To dream and work and sacrifice. To sacrifice a short time for long term gain is unbelievably gratifying. Is that a good selling point? FREEDOM RESONATES. Personal Responsibility makes people a little queezy….the reality is that Republicans and Conservatives had always been about choice. The liberals want to limit choices, whereas we are open to having the ultimate…as many choices, as many freedoms, as many opportunities as you can stomach, and often much more.
When we are talking about inspiration and generational entitlements, we are going to have to communicate that message to the masses. All that has been given out freely and without consequence has been without due and dire accountability, liberty and freedom….the entitlements are gone, but you have to get a job so you can fight freedom and liberty. If you start playing on words like slavery and make people realize that they have to pay money, fill out forms, buy food, pay rent somewhere by government mandate….can you imagine if people understood that they were slaves to government by being recipients of welfare dollars. Let freedom ring…but it is their form of security. You will not attract all and so many are tied to the gravy train, but getting a percentage of the populous to believe in freedom and to get the minority to shake off the yoke of oppression, then you will see the true glory and the boundlessness of Freedom.
Barak Obama is black in skin color only. You hear a lot of people talk about Barry Goldwater and Jeff Ford to Richard Nixon. Hillary gets stiffened because Obama is black and 9 out of 10 blacks that go to the polls are voting for him. There is no way any democrat can walk into a general election with the smaller minority and expect to win…they have to offer hope.
To understand why what has happened has happened and Barak is in the position he is in, you have to look no further than the O.J. Simpson trial. If you took the jurors behind closed doors, they would undoubtedly say that it was because he was Black. Minorities used the system that has demonized and devalued them and brought sentiment, the same sentiment that has driven Obama to success. Just because a person is a minority, does not mean they are in favor of the minority camp. The connection between Obama and O.J. is that there is an advantage of not needing actual or factual information….all the minority has to do is sit back. If you notice that when Hillary screws up, John McCain is all over it, but he steers clear when Obama screws up because if he says something that is so much as perceived as racist, he is finished….so he cannot cross that boundary. Never forget where you come from….we have been fooled every step of the way.
As a black Presidential candidate, you walk the fine line of giving the appearance of being a part of the minority. You don’t want to be alienated by your own community, but at the same time, you have to go to your own community and have a dual image of being non-threatening. That is a tightrope and why Barak took forever to distance himself from Reverend Wright. Let the other guy hang himself and look like a buffoon so when the leader distances himself, it doesn’t look so bad.
During the 1991 election b/w Bush and Clinton, it was “if that guy gets elected, as opposed to Bush, it’s back to the Swing-low chains”, but the fact that it was brought up in conversation is what keeps the stigma alive. If I lived in a ghetto at this time and had the chance to send my kids to a voucher school, the Republican party should’ve embraced it. The only ways stereotypically out of an inner city for minorities are sports, jail, schools or fame. If you talk to any Black person, they will tell you they were fine til after the 2004 election and have been wanting to get back in to the Republican party, why didn’t the GOP act on it?
At some point there was a shift. How it happened I have no idea. We had two trains of thought in the Black Community, one of “go along, get along” and one more militant point of view “we mean no one, we mean nothing”. At some point during that movement everything got turned around, and the GOP was the worst entity to the Black community.
In order for the Republican Party to change, there will be a debate that runs into a black college, like Bush had in 2000---when he and Al Gore talked about Hate Crime laws, Bush said “I gave those three punks what they deserved..the death penalty”. That type of conversation has to happen. If you were to take a Conservative with no cameras, no organization, no soundbytes, but go into the inner cities of the Big cities, go in and say “It isn’t about votes, or money….what do you need to turn this situation around?”
We don’t want a hand-out, we want a hand up. If the Black vote does not get a date from the GOP, they will find another party that WILL take them out on a date, give a hand UP.
Don’t go to the icons…create the opportunities to listen. Is there room in our philosophy to recognize that there are distinct problems unique to minorities in America that need some unique attention, if only to say that we recognize that the Black community in St. Louis is different than the Black community in Springfield. We have to realize that we can take government away and free the people as opposed to enslaving them. How do we recognize that there are unique or distinct issues relevant to the minority and relationship with the Republican party.
There should be no supercitizens that are minorities, because it gives them the ability to be better than the rest of us…they are more protected, higher citizenry-ized…..
Let me just say : if you can get friends under 40 to work the polls, provide me names, numbers and when/where they will work and I will be obliged to buy them lunch, and you if you work the polls and bring them to help!
