The Pros and Cons and the issues we have discussed:
Please visit and peruse the KSGF “Young Conservative Agenda” website. From Springfield, Missouri, we can truly impact and infect the world with heartened, Conservative values and change the world through viral marketing with the right idea at the right time. As we are putting this altogether, one of the things we must be conscious of his how to market our ideas. Think past this room and bring the plank ideas to people as they will resonate. While we are hungry for change, we are all craving change with substance, something that we can take to the marketplace and successfully sell what others will buy. Republicans have not been selling what we or anyone else wants to buy into. Please ask questions, think thoroughly and speak clearly, with well-thought-out formatted ideas. We need as much participation and active involvement as possible.

How do we sell PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY?
We need Personal Accountability to resonate with people, young and older. Words that we might use to sell the idea of Personal Accountability are “Freedom”, “choice”, “improvement”. It can be marketed as “rugged individualism” of Western Expansion, a lack of a safety net of government since we no longer need that. It may not work for every demographic, but we can use examples such as Lewis and Clark, The Oregon Trail……

What does it matter who we target? What Obama has done is to go after a more general voting populous. If you try to tailor your message to a specific group, you will ultimately limit your chances of success. If you specify your party and message, you will lose general interest and suffer the vote. That is the old way of promoting a message. Today, we have to be able to throw out a message and let anyone who has Freedom of Choice to make it affirmative, let them!
The other group that Obama has been hitting is the techno-group. The younger people are getting the information, seeing it, reading it and passing it on to the older demographic. Younger people are more attuned to technology and pushing the message up as opposed to the downward trickle of parenthood influence. What we need to do is write what anyone can read, apply to their lives and apply to a broader population base, all walks of life as opposed to our current and past approach. People who CARRY the message can cause trends based on speaking the jargon of the peers they speak to. Something we need is a platform written for EVERYONE.
Change works because it doesn’t take a great deal of intellect to understand. Something we should be cognizant of as we formulate and discuss is that we have to put our thoughts in layman terms. We don’t have to have everyone in our circle, but everyone should understand what our point is. What REALLY resonates with the newer voting groups is PERSONALITY, a semblance of an ‘occult’ figure. Dumbing down the message is not providential, and not changing the message so much as it is changing the medium. The biggest part of this is where we WANT to go, try to remember where we DON’T want to go with our views (Marxism and Socialism) and that some of those roads will infringe heavily on our rights and privileges. The point is that sometimes you have to jar someone to catch their attention.

It’s one thing to say everything is okay when everyone believes it, but another to do so when things are awry. If we continue down the road we are on, the only tool left in our arsenal WILL be personal accountability. The timing is completely wrong…..it is all in marketing and ‘packaging’. That Republicans have blundered the message of Conservativism is the reason it does not resonate. Consider the source speaking, that it should be frank and candid.
Some of these concepts are not well-drawn, and while a picture is worth a thousand words, and maybe some of what we need is visual imagery….three to five second blips of a display of each of the planks we are considering and speaking on. Perhaps this is something that can be more subtle than direct and in-your-face. “If you are afraid of the future, get out of the way. Stand aside because people are ready to move.”-Ronald Regan
Maybe we have to adopt the “Field of Dreams” approach. If we just tell the truth and encourage the people to be the best they can be, we will have a message that will resonate with everyone, no matter what party they are in or have been a part of. Something else to look at is that, when personal responsibility is what we are targeting, we can call it ‘achievement’ and ‘recognition’ as people who have come together to make this country great. We can look in on the outcome of personal accountability and we have a great road in to make it marketable to a myriad of people.
Obama not only talks about change, but notes that Washington is broken, easily contrasts the GOP message. The statistics hold up when 60-8o percent of Americans are dissatisfied, and recognize that Washington is no longer Washington. Our message should be HOPE WITH SUBSTANCE. HOPE AND CHANGE WITH SUBSTANCE.
A good approach to sell Personal Accountability is to show what happens when we do not HAVE it. We should show people things like implementation of curfews, mass transit systems, social medicine and death increases. If we also teach people to work and they eliminate welfare, they will notice this effect and the benefits of being off welfare and out of that trap, as well as empowerment and the benefits to their families, friends and peers. Get the regulation out of the way by being accountable, where we could be using money to better ourselves, and where we could filter the use of information and moderation to benefit the party. There are also a slew of people who think that they are in a certain set of circumstances because of authority, so it is almost then necessary to sell the idea in such a way that we can boost ourselves and that no one is holding people back. That is the most difficult part of Personal Accountability. People should know their unlimited potential as Americans, that we have, right now, the virtue of Freedom and Choice and we are not victims or slaves.
