I made a short visit to the Park's Departments Rivercut Golf Course about a week or so back. Looks like the golf cart bridges took a bit of a hit, but that was not the major problem.

Even with the massive amount of rainfall, for some reason, the five acres of Rivercut Lakes were basically empty. About 12 years ago, I reported to the proper Parks staff that the lakes were not being built properly, and were "leaking" nearly 650,000 gallons of water per day.

Pumping costs, just to keep the lakes full, in addition to pumping 450,000 gallons per day out on the golf course, were outrageous.

This looks to still be a MAJOR problem at the facility. When was the last time this situation was measured by an independent engineering firm ??

It gets very expensive pumping 650,000 gallons 24 / 7 / 365 / 12 years.

Could the City provide the total annual electrical costs for Rivercut Golf Course from 1999 to the present ?? Also needed for proper comparison, would be the annual electrical costs for the Horton Smith Golf Course for the same period. (where the lakes do not leak substantially)

Sadly, there is little time to try to improve this situation, as it is now nearly time where the lakes will "have to be kept full" to allow for proper irrigation through the summer.

Thank you, Curtis D. Johnson Parks/Golf Facilities Supervisor 1990-1998

Looks like we might have to "post & answer" our own questions here, and then wait for a public reply should they not be correct...
