About every blog written for the next several days will be about the Colorado shooting at the showing of "The Dark Knight Rises". This one is too. Probably a bit of a different angle though.
Both the Obama and Romney campaigns have pulled all "negative" campaign ads off the air in Colorado. According to "The Hill", this is in response to the shooting. Am I missing something? What is that going to do?
When a tragedy like this happens, we tend to have knee jerk reactions. And often times those knee jerk reactions have absolutely nothing to do with the incident or the aftermath. Of course, if one side pulled the negative ads and one side did not, the side that continued running the ads would be blasted for it. (The obvious exception is if it were Obama's campaign that continued running the ads. That would be ok.)
But why pull the ads in the first place? Is it because people think it is the "right thing to do"? Well, I have this habit of asking "Why?".
"Why pull the campaign ads?"
"Because it is the right thing to do."
"Why is it the right thing to do?"
"It just is."
Well, "It just is" isn't a reason. I am all for being sensitive. I just think it should make sense.
Just a thought.
