The Trump administration is expected to send hundreds of troops to the southern border.
Multiple reports say Defense Secretary Jim Mattis will sign an order to send about 800 military personnel to the U.S.-Mexico border.
Those troops are in addition to the National Guard members who’ve been helping U.S. Customs and Border Protection since the spring.
The extra manpower assists with things like surveillance, technical support and medical care.
It’s not clear whether the additional troops will be more National Guard members or other active duty military. The additional forces would come ahead of the migrant caravan that’s heading toward the U.S. from Honduras.
