History Museum Opens In Downtown Springfield

After years of planning, a new history museum is open in Springfield.

Visitors to the facility on Park Central Square get to re-live southwest Missouri’s history through interactive exhibits, video and photography, and artifacts.

The museum, which opened August 8th, has more than 18,000 square feet of space, encompassing three floors.

It includes a Welcome Center, six permanent galleries, and traveling exhibit space.

One of the features is a transportation gallery with a time machine built into a replica of a trolley car, and another is a Frisco locomotive that literally emerges through the upper mezzanine wall.

Other exhibits include “Wild Bill Hickok and the American West” and “Birthplace of Route 66.”

The price of admission is $16 for adults, $13 for seniors, students and members of the military and their families, $10 for kids ages 4-12, and free to those under the age of three.
