Missouri Public Defenders Urges Jails to Let Misdemeanor Offenders Go to Fight Coronavirus

The Missouri State Public Defenders Office says city jails are petri dishes for the coronavirus.

A letter drafted by the office to Chief justices of the Supreme Court of Missouri requests that those inmates who have committed a misdemeanor or a municipal ordinance violation, or who are in other similar situations, be released from Jail.

They say this action is necessary to combat COVID-19 and to protect the health and safety of inmates, corrections workers, nurses, and all those in the correctional system.
