The last African American church in Springfield is looking to raise funds to repair damage to the building.
The Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church needs a quarter of a million dollars to fix water damage in the ceiling along with rubble in the stairways.
The pastor of the church, Russell Russell Ewell II says the damages are rooted in design flaws. He also wants to add a wheelchair-accessible bathroom.
Ewell says that in the two years he has been with the church, he has not been able to hold services in the sanctuary.
