Kanye West, a controversial grammy award-winning musician, has announced he is running for President of the United States. The rapper and pop star tweeted that “we must realize the promise of America by trusting God and unifying our vision and building our future.” West has mentioned running for president before.
Support and derision were both aimed at West, who many democrats see as a threat to a unified support against President Trump. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk tweeted his support for West with an American flag emoji.
The rapper used the hashtag #2020VISION in his tweet, but it is not clear if he will be running as an independent candidate or even in a later election as he has previously implied.
West has four months before the election and likely would not be able to get on the ballot in many states, giving him a low likelihood of pulling out a victory even with popular support.
