Springfield’s City Manager Jason Gage spoke at the City Council meeting Monday night and present policing recommendations based on demands by the local NAACP.
Those demands are the ban of lateral vascular neck restraints, reducing the traffic stop disparity rate and to make changes to the Police Civilian Review Board.
Springfield Police currently uses the LVNR technique but does not allow chokeholds.
Springfield’s disparity rates is at 2.71 while the state’s average is 1.78.
Gage talked about the recommendations, saying there is always room for improvement and the door is always open.
