Several local schools have closed because COVID cases are on the rise.
Springfield School Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan says the district had to cancel classes because a lot of staff members were too sick to teach virtually.
She says the district is cleaning school buildings.
She hopes students will be back in class on Monday, but if not, they’ll start virtual learning.
Lathan says the school board did talk about the possibility of requiring masks in school at its meeting Tuesday night.
But it made no final decision.
She says if the school board does pass a mandate, the district will handle any legal hurdles.
The Missouri Attorney General is already preparing lawsuits against others who’ve defied a judge’s order.
