(KTTS News) — A mother convicted of abandoning a corpse in her daughter’s death has been sentenced.
Rebecca Ruud was found not guilty of murder in July in the death of 16-year-old Savannah Leckie.
On Thursday, she was sentenced to four years in prison for leaving Leckie’s body in a burn pile on Ruud’s Ozark County farm.
But she was credited with time served.
Prosecutors originally charged Ruud with killing her daughter, but the judge said there wasn’t enough evidence.
Defense attorneys argued Ruud panicked after finding Leckie dead, and then burned her remains.
The state dropped its case against Ruud’s husband.
