Feb 23 (Reuters) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Monday that Principal Deputy Director Ralph Abraham has stepped down, effective immediately, citing unforeseen family obligations.
The agency did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment on who would be the replacement.
U.S. National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya had stepped in as acting director of the agency, as part of a shakeup within the health department ahead of midterm elections.
Health and Human Services Deputy Security Jim O’Neill, who had been serving as acting CDC director since August, vacated both roles earlier this month.
