The Highway Patrol says a man from Springfield is dead after he was hit by a semi on I-44 in Laclede County.

It happened Thursday night west of the Hazelgreen exit.

Troopers say 36-year-old Cullen May was walking across the westbound lanes of I-44 around the 143-mile marker when he was hit.
