Greene County Collector, Assessor To Close Offices Temporarily

The Greene County Collector and the Greene County Assessor’s Personal Property Department will temporarily close their offices to walk-in traffic for three days.

The offices will be closed from Monday, January 4 through Wednesday, January 6 to address some of the technical issues impacting this year’s tax assessments and tax statements.

You can still pay your taxes online at countycollector.com.

Here’s more on the closings:

In an effort to best utilize the time and resources needed to address ongoing technical issues impacting this year’s tax assessments and tax statements, Greene County Collector Leah Betts and Greene County Assessor Rick Kessinger are advising residents their offices will temporarily close to walk-in traffic for three days.

To manage the current influx of tax assessment and tax statement-related inquiries and to allow time to work through software programming matters, the Collector’s Office and the Personal Property Department of the Assessor’s office will be working over the weekend and will not be accessible to in-person business from Monday, Jan. 4 through Wednesday, Jan. 6. During the temporary closing, residents are still able to make real estate and personal property tax payments via regular mail or online at www.countycollector.com. Citizens may also email the Collector’s office by clicking on the contact button on the Collector’s home page. If a citizen needs a bill created or a correction on a bill, they need to contact the Assessor’s office via the contact information on their website as that is the office that maintains all of the data – and then passes it to the Collector for collection.

This closing is for the Collector’s Office and Assessor’s Personal Property Department only. All other resources in the Greene County Historic Courthouse will remain fully accessible at that time.

As was communicated previously to citizens, issues continue to arise in the multi-phase, multi-office processing of tax assessments and tax statements. Both County and vendor resources are working to address these items.

“Both the Assessor and myself apologize for any confusion or inconvenience surrounding this year’s tax assessment and tax statement process, but please also know that we are working diligently and in an all-hands-on-deck mode to address these unexpected software issues as quickly and as thoroughly as we can,” Betts said. “Rick Kessinger and I thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we work to provide the best customer service we can.”
