Church Hosts Vaccine Drive, Offers Cash Raffle To Those Who Get Shot

A Springfield church is hosting a vaccine drive Sunday afternoon, along with a chance to win $1,000.

Turning Point Church on north National, formerly Washington Avenue Baptist Church, is holding the COVID-19 clinic from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Press Release

Turning Point Church (TPC), in partnership with Jordan Valley Community Health, is raffling off $1,000 in cash to one lucky person who gets vaccinated during a community-wide vaccination drive on Sunday, August 8th, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., at TPC
(1722 N. National Avenue, Springfield).

“Our motto is ‘You Count, We Care.’ We felt this was an important step to take as a church body to help encourage our community to get vaccinated,” says Ashanti Tate with TPC.

Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show lower vaccination rates among communities of color.

This will be a 1 or 2 dose vaccine event, with the Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna vaccines offered.

Walk-ins are also welcome.

Adolescents 12-17 years old will need a parent/guardian present and signature on their vaccine consent form.

“Springfield, at this time, is one of the epicenters for [the Delta variant], and it is because our surrounding communities are vaccinated more than we are. If we want to get back to normal, if we want to start hugging our family and friends again, we must do our part…and our part is getting vaccinated,” says healthcare educator and TPC member Michelle Williams, RN.

This is the second vaccine event facilitated by TPC and Jordan Valley Community Health.

TPC is one of Springfield, Missouri’s oldest African American churches, organized in 1867, formerly known as Second Baptist Church (Colored) and later as Washington Avenue Baptist Church.
