Springfield School Kids Get First COVID Vaccines

Some Springfield school kids got their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine designed just for kids ages 5 to 11.

They received the shots this morning during a press conference.

Springfield-Greene County Health Director Katie Towns says the shots come at the perfect time for her own family.

“Our family will be gathering for the first time this Christmas and my kids being vaccinated means the world because my parents are both in a high-risk category. And even though they’ve been vaccinated, to know that we’re not going to bring disease into the home and circulate that over Christmas while we’re finally gathering and trying to have a celebration for the first time in a couple of years — it gives such relief.”

Parents can sign their kids up to get the vaccine through their doctor’s office.

There will also be vaccine clinics for students, staff and family members on November 20 at Williams Elementary School in Springfield and at the Springfield-Greene County vaccination clinic at Battlefield and Fremont.
