(KTTS News) — Police in Ozark are warning about fake phone calls claiming to be from the police department, demanding personal information or payment of fines.
The calls use a technique called “spoofing” which puts out a fake Caller ID to make you think it’s an official call.
The Ozark Police Department says it does not ask for payments over the phone, and it doesn’t handle bond transactions over the phone.
Similar scams have been reported in other cities and states.
