Rare ‘Christmas Star’ To Shine For The First Time In 800 Years

Make sure to keep your eyes to the sky this month!

For the first time in nearly 800 years, Jupiter and Saturn will appear closer and create what is called a great conjunction by astronomers. This is also called a “Christmas Star” or “Star of Bethlehem” because of the closeness to December 25th.

According to Earthsky, this will be the closest conjunction between the two planets since 1623.

Here’s the best way to view it:

The best day to view the Christmas Star will be December 21st. Astronomers say you can also view it throughout that week.

Those living in the northern hemisphere should look to the southwest around 45 minutes after sunset.

A great conjunction of this magnitude won’t happen again until March of 2080.
