(KTTS News) — Defense attorneys called two psychiatrists to the stand Thursday in the murder trial for Edward Gutting.
The former Missouri State University instructor is charged with stabbing retired professor Marc Cooper to death at his Springfield home.
Both psychiatrists saw Gutting in 2011.
They say Gutting heard voices.
A neighbor says Gutting looked like a zombie the night of the murder.
Police say he smelled like alcohol when he was arrested.
Gutting has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
The courts initially found him unfit for trial after the crime.
But he was later deemed fit to stand trial.
