WASHINGTON, Dec 18 (Reuters) – A Cessna C550 business jet crashed on landing Thursday at the Statesville Regional Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Local media quoted the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office as saying there were fatalities in the crash but did not detail how many or say who was on board.
WSOC-TV said the plane was owned by NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, citing public records.
A picture posted by local media and social media showed a large fire on the runway amid the plane wreckage. The FAA said the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation.
