Democratic Debate RECAP:

Last night kicked off the first half of the 2020 presidential Democratic debate. Here’s a recap of what you need to know in case you missed it.

MIC DROP:

First, there was severe microphone issued that forced NBC and MSNBC to take a commercial debate. President Trump took the chance to mock the media.

CASTRO:

Julian Castro made a comment in regards to the transgender community and abortions.
“I don’t believe only in reproductive freedom, I believe in reproductive justice. And what that means is just because a woman, or let’s also not forget someone in the trans community—a trans female—is poor, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t exercise that right to choose. So I absolutely would cover that right to have an abortion.”

O’ROURKE & BOOKER:

Beto O’Rourke and Sen. Cory Booker took the opportunity to show off their Spanish. Even AOC thought the use of Spanish was funny at times due to the content of the questions.

ELIZABETH WARREN:

Elizabeth Warren took center stage by talking about the economy. Warren stated that the economy is doing great for a thinner and thinner slice at the top.

So how is the economy really doing? New reports show that in the first quarter of 2019, the U.S. economy grew by 3.2%. Unemployment fell to a 50-year low of 3.6%.

WHERE IS THE JOE BIDEN COMMENTS:

What’s interesting is that none of the candidates took the chance to mention former Vice President Joe Biden, but all of them are trailing him in the polls.

PRESIDENT TRUMP WEIGHS IN:

President Trump summed up the debate with a one worded tweet: “BORING!”

A SURPRISING WIN:

So who won this debate? Warren was the top leader ahead of the debate, but it seems that Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii had the greatest increase in searches after the during and after the debate.

Why has Missouri Stayed Red:

KOLR 10 wrote an article last night in light of the 2020 Democratic debate. Ozarks First spoke with Skyler Johnston, the executive director of Greene County Democratic Party, about what Democrats need to do to win back voters in Missouri.
