Protest Against Police Brutality Begins in Downtown Springfield

Protesters gathered today on Park Central Square as a part of an organized effort to protest police brutality and racism against black people.

Protesters held signs saying “Black Lives Matter” and “Silence is Violence.”

Protests around the nation and internationally erupted after a video of a white police officer kneeling on a black man’s neck went viral online.

Violence sometimes followed protests, with four incidents being reported to Police in Springfield.

Springfield Police say the two protests which have happened already on Glenstone and Battlefield were largely peaceful.

Roads will be closed today around the square until around 7 p.m., for more information on that, see our story here.
