Today over one and a half million wreaths were placed in honor of Veterans as a part of National Wreaths Across America Day.
The Wreaths Across America organization, which organizes the national wreath laying, says wreaths are placed on United States veterans’ graves by volunteers as a gesture of gratitude for American freedoms.
The organization says it wants to thank volunteers from over 2,500 locations coming out to participate and overcoming obstacles.
Wreaths are purchased by private donation.
Wreaths Across America was founded in 1992 by Morrill Worcester and has coordinated wreath-laying ceremonies every year since with live balsam wreaths.
